I still hold the opinion that Sony HC-42 is a not suitable handycam if you indend to write to DVD although I saw reviews of customer being very satisfied. Is it possible that my firewire could be a problem. It does not even support DVD creation.Ĭould anyone tell me where I am doing wrong.

The software only supports USB does not support firewire transfer.

It is very unfortunate that sony cannot even provide a decent software to campture movie from miniDV. The sony picture package software that came with the handycam is simply worse. I see loss at every stage, the maximum while capturing and some degradation while compressing to mpeg format. I see a degradation of about 50% in the picture quality when I play the DVD (the colours seem to be totally lost) when compared to the same DV being played on TV directly. The colour seems to be totally washed out. I have tried using various softwares like MS Movie maker, Inter DVD Creator, Pinnacle 9 but with whatever I use, I am getting a very poor quality picture. I then Got a ordinary firewire (IEEE 1394) and transferred the data to my Laptop (Toshiba satellite with in built IEEE 1394 port). I have started with capturing using USB, but soon had to drop the idea due to inferior quality. I have recently bought Sony DCR-HC42 and am very unhappy with the result after I capture it in my Laptop. Posted on Wednesday, Aug07:26 GMTPoor video quality after capturing from Sony HCR-HC42: Windows 2000 is supposed to come with MS DV, is it not? WTF?!?!?! I have even shut down, plugged the camera in and started up again, but to no avail. I tried another cable from work and the camera still is not detected. I also know that it is not the firewire cable, I have tested the cable and it works fine otherwise. (I tested it on the mac only to see if it was the camera's port.) This camera works fine on a Mac computer at my work but I really don't want to capture personal stuff with work equipment, it's unprofessional. This adapter DOES detect my 40 GB usb/firewire drive however and I have not had any trouble transfering data back and forth. I've plugged the camera into all of the adapter's ports, turned the camera off, waited two minutes and turned it back on, and NOTHING new has showed up in ANY of the areas of my hardware devices. I've had bad experience with a terrible connection between my S-Video and my old analog video capture card, so I got a Mercury PCI 1394 6 pin FireWire Card to capture via DV. Posted on Tuesday, Aug22:24 GMTI have a canon Camcorder with only S-Video and DV inputs.
